ABSTRACT

The State of California has passed legislation to monitor for microplastics in drinking water. This monitoring effort necessitates the need for harmonized sample processing and measurement techniques. This presentation provides and overview of the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project's inter-laboratory measurement methods study, in which dozens of laboratories from 6 countries around the world analyzed blind samples to assess performance and feasibility of methods based on visual microscopy, spectroscopy, and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
