ABSTRACT

Over the course of my career, spanning over thirty years, data management has gradually shifted focus from security, accessibility and traceability of hardcopy deliverables to the format and efficiency of electronic data deliverables. The most recent efforts seem to be focused on cloud storage, electronic transfer, universal application and electronic data quality screening.

With a panoply of electronic systems to manage each aspect of the data collection process, it may be wise to revisit the components of our current data management systems and more fully document the choices and decisions in a data management plan. Although the digital age has increased efficiency and accessibility to the users of the data, this has also added complexity to data management planning. This discussion will explore additional components needed in today’s digital data management planning process.
