ABSTRACT

US EPA method SW-846-8270 is applied to determine the concentration of a wide range of semivolatile organic compounds (SVOC) in solvent extracts prepared from solid waste matrices, soils, and water samples. Phoenix Environmental Laboratories employs a vortex evaporator (BUCHI, Syncore® Analyst) to concentrate in parallel 12 extracted samples prior to the quantitative evaluation using GC/MS (Agilent, GC-MS).

Important results using the combined Syncore® Analyst concentration and GC-MS analysis process comprise i) Efficient and automatized sample concentration in only 28 minutes, hence 2.3 minutes per sample ii) > 95 % solvent recovery due to the twofold solvent recovery system iii) Compliance with the EPA solvent emission reduction program iv) Economic savings and ecologic advantages since no expensive blow down gas is needed v) High and reproducible sample recovery rates for Laboratory Control Samples (LOC).
