Opacity Monitor QA/QC Procedure Revisions

ABSTRACT
USEPA has recently promulgated revised QA/QC procedures for continuous opacity monitoring systems (COMS). These revisions will impact every COMS that is used to monitor opacity from a Federally regulated point source. The new QA/QC procedures, known as Procedure 3, will for the first time establish a defined set of uniform COMS audit, calibration, and operational procedures. This paper will provide a brief history of COMS QA/QC requirements, detail the new procedures, and discuss potential issues for source owners with older COMS units.
