ABSTRACT

Monitoring of Priority Organic Pollutants in the Human Population is topic of high importance. Methods established by the CDC have relied on human serum as the media with which to provide statistical data for analytes such as PCDDs, PCDFs, PCBs, PBDEs, PCNs and OCPs, mainly due to its greater accessibility than human adipose tissue. Of increasing importance, particularly in the EU, is the concentration of these analytes in human breast milk. Commonly extracted with Solid Phase Extraction techniques, these matrices pose inherent challenges with extraction efficiency and sample capacity incompatibilities between analyte classes. The use of pressurized fluid extraction paired with automated multi column clean-up enables the combination of these analyte classes to be conducted from a single sample, generated across multiple fractions. A comprehensive validation was performed on both serum and breast milk pairing the fore mentioned sample prep with GC HRMS and GC MS-MS analysis.
