ABSTRACT

Dissolved gas analysis is a principal component of predrill activities in Shale Plays. In order to limit liability, predrill analyses of water bodies are conducted. One of the principal components of the analytical scheme is dissolved gas analysis of which methane is of significant importance among other gas components. Typically, the method utilized in the industry is the RSK-175 method developed by USEPA RSKERL laboratory in Ada, OK.
The RSK-175 method is not an EPA promulgated method. However, this method is widely utilized by industry to measure dissolved gases, initially, in GW samples and subsequently in predrill activities.
This presentation will examine the use of gas phase standard and the recently formulated liquid standard LCS. Comparison over time will be presented.
