ABSTRACT

Federal and State regulators are increasingly looking towards academic research to drive future environmental regulation through identification of emerging contaminants and provide relevant toxicological information. However, effective communication between academic researchers and decision makers requires facilitation through knowledge brokers like scientific groups. This allows for effective translation of research outcomes into regulatory policy. This panel discussion will focus on the role of academics in driving environmental regulation and will include perspectives and viewpoints from officials in regulatory bodies like the USEPA, science advisory panels like NELAP, instrument vendors associated with both regulatory, and research facilities along with Academic researchers. Participants are encouraged to join in the discussion and participate with questions and comments.
