ABSTRACT
The coefficient of determination (R2) has been the industry standard in validating a calibration curve for flow injection analysis. However, a push for more stringent regulations of environmental nutrients and contaminants have led to a reevaluation of validating a calibration curve. This presentation will compare and contrast R2 with a new metric, relative standard error (RSE), as methods for validating environmental measurements. Both practical examples and idealizations are posed to illustrate the benefits and potential pitfalls of each technique.
