Michele Prevost
Professor and Principal Chair Holder, NSERC Industrial Chair on Drinking Water Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering, Polytechnique Montreal
Since 1992, Dr Prevost holds an Industrial Chair on Drinking Water of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) at the Department of Civil Engineering of Polytechnique Montreal. Her NSERC Chair focuses on developing technology solutions to improve drinking water quality. Dr Prevost co-founded the CFI funded CREDEAU laboratory, a unique multi university Canadian water technology platform that has grown since 2006. Dr Prevost’s research focuses on source protection (contaminant and pathogen detection), water treatment (disinfection) and various aspects of distribution systems (biofilm control, biostability, pathogen regrowth, integrity & intrusion, Legionella control, hydraulic and quality modeling). I have been appointed to various expert committees and commission including the Walkerton Commission and the Hong Kong Water Quality Inquiry. She recently participated actively in the revision of the CSA technical team setting standard Z317.1 for special requirements for plumbing installations in health care facilities. She successfully completed several large multi university initiatives on water quality in distribution systems (DS integrity and control of metals) funded by the Canadian Water Network (CWN). Dr Prévost is active in numerous technical advisory committees to governmental agencies (MDDLCC, HC, USEPA), utilities and international organizations (WHO). In 2016, she received the A. P. BLACK Award of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for outstanding research contributions to water science and water supply rendered over an appreciable period of time.
