ABSTRACT

US EPA methods for VOCs, 524, 624 and 8260, require you meet mass spectral criteria for 4-bromofluorobenzene (BFB). These criteria were established with the 1984 promulgation of EPA Method 624. However, new GC-MS instruments often have difficulty passing these criteria. Recently, Shimadzu developed new tuning algorithm which helps to adjust the mass spectrum for EPA methods. This new tuning algorithm controls the ion quantity in the ion optics and makes it easy to adjust mass spectral patterns. This new algorithm also helps achieve long-term consistency. This means that daily work can proceed without instrument correction and recalibration. EPA Method 8260 data will be presented as an example.
