ABSTRACT
Elemental speciation is becoming a common methodology in the routine environmental laboratory. While analysts may be experienced in the operation of liquid chromatography and ICP-MS environmental methods, new challenges occur when the techniques are coupled for a hyphenated method such as HPLC-ICP-MS. In this work, we will explore some common problems associated with elemental speciation analysis and liquid chromatography sample introduction systems. We will also discuss solutions to a few common challenges, proper plumbing, and some advanced system configurations.
