ABSTRACT

The Independent Laboratory Institute (ILI) conducted a two-phase field study to demonstrate the efficacy of a generic, solid phase extraction (SPE) protocol for the analysis of semi-volatile analytes in
waste water. Six SPE vendors participated in the single-blind studies as did twenty-four laboratories from industry and government. Two challenging synthetic waste water matrices were evaluated as was a new suite of extraction performance surrogates.

In this session, we will present the overall results of this collaborative study. The performance of the SPE protocol in the two waste water matrices will be compared and contrasted with liquid-liquid extraction performance bench marks. The performance of the new surrogate suite will also be compared to that of the surrogate suite historically used for waste water analysis.

This presentation of collective study results will be followed by presentations from the six study participants to highlight the performance of individual SPE approaches.
