ABSTRACT

The analysis of water samples for the presence of Cryptosporidium is a labor intensive process which involves multiple steps commencing with the capture and recovery of target organisms from a water sample followed by concentration, purification, identification and enumeration of the captured targets.

Due to the nature of the analysis, there are significant opportunities for target organisms to be lost resulting in reduced sensitivity, repeatability and reproducibility within the method.

By adopting best practice and focusing on key areas, recovery and precision within the method can be optimized and performance maintained.
