ABSTRACT

The USEPA has developed, published, multiple methods for the analysis of environmental pollutants, and single-quadrupole gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) has been the choice for determination of organic contaminants. Over the years, GC/MS instrumentation has evolved with changes in MS detectors design including improvements in sensitivity and reliability. These improvements help increase productivity of environmental laboratories. Shimadzu is collaborating with Restek Corporation to optimize volatile GCMS system performance including purge and trap parameters, column choice, liner choice, and detector settings.

This poster will provide the effects of these instrument improvements and method modifications on sensitivity for EPA method 8260. Precision and accuracy and all instrumental conditions will be outlined in detail and evaluated.
