Christopher Mills

Chris has been a research chemist with the U.S. Geological Survey Crustal Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center in Denver Colorado since 2007. He has a BA in chemistry from Grinnell College (Grinnell, IA), an M.S. in environmental science and engineering from the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and a Ph.D. in chemistry also from CSM. Chris’s research focuses on microbial and stable isotope biogeochemistry as well as trace metal geochemistry. His work has included assessing impacts of Deepwater Horizon oil on salt marsh sediment microbial communities, understanding mechanisms for the accumulation of naturally-occurring hexavalent chromium in California groundwater, and relating the geochemistry of Prairie Pothole wetlands to emissions of carbon dioxide and methane.
