ABSTRACT
Soil moisture is critical to plant health and difficult to sense in the field. This program presents hardware and software solutions to sense, store and transmit soil moisture data in real-time. This is an example of technology commonly referred to as internet of things (IoT) which extends internet connectivity to small-scale applications. Presentation covers hardware, power, connectivity, data format and transmission. Presentation covers initial installation into a bioretention soil mix. Results from this project can be used to estimate stormwater volume held in soil and trigger irrigation in order to keep plants healthy.
