C. Derrick Quarles Jr.
C. Derrick Quarles Jr. is a Sr. Scientist working for Elemental Scientific, Inc. in the areas of metal speciation and laser ablation. He received his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Clemson University in the area of glow discharge spectroscopy and did a post-doc at the Centers for Disease Control developing methods for the analysis of metals in clinical samples. Prior work includes time as researcher for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory working in the field of atomic spectroscopy. In addition, he worked in the field of laser ablation as a global business and applications manager before joining Elemental Scientific. He has over 25 peer-reviewed journal article publications, was named one of the “2014 young analytical scientist” by the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectroscopy, and received the “2018 Young Alumni Award” from the college of science and mathematics at Augusta University.
