ABSTRACT
Wet chemistry has historically been one of the more manual divisions of the environmental laboratory. While the methods present some challenges to automation, spectrophotometry does offer some options in this area. A discrete analyzer offers the most exact match to the manual process of adding chemicals and waiting for the color reaction to occur. This presentation will explore the fundamental operation of a discrete analyzer, it's strengths and weaknesses, and when it makes sense to start automating your procedure with this type of equipment.
