Brian Kinsella is an applications chemist at UCT where he has worked for the past 8 years specializing in environmental and food safety analysis. He received his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Cork Institute of Technology (Ireland) where his postgraduate research focused on the development of new methodologies for the detection of veterinary drug residues in food of animal origin. He has a wide range of experience with different analytical techniques including sample preparation, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. He has developed numerous methods for the analysis of pesticides in food and environmental samples, veterinary drugs in food of animal origin, chemical residues in dietary supplements, and drugs of abuse in blood and urine. He is the author or co-author of several scientific papers that have been published in peer reviewed journals, and has presented his work at a variety of international conferences.
