Preetha Biswas

Dr. Preetha Biswas is the Director of Microbiology, Research and Development at Neogen Corporation in Lansing MI, completed 10 years. Dr. Biswas oversees the Food Safety product development initiatives of Pathogen Detection, Soleris Rapid Microbiology and Neogen Culture Media microbiology R&D groups. She leads growth media and diagnostic product development efforts for common food, water-borne and environmental pathogens like, Listeria, Salmonella, pathogenic E. coli and Campylobacter.
Dr. Biswas earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Virology from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom; M. Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology and M.Sc. from University of Hyderabad, India. She held research positions at University of Cambridge Med School, Fox chase Cancer Center (PA), Rutgers Med School - UMDNJ and Michigan State University. Preetha is an author on several peer-reviewed manuscripts, patents and a recipient of multitude of awards/grants including; AOAC Technical and Scientific Excellence Award (2014) for Salmonella confirmation method, NIH grants to investigate hepatitis virus replication and HIV-1 drug development, USDA SBIR Phase I Grant for developing molecular assay for TB in milk. While at Cambridge, she was awarded the Cambridge Nehru Scholarship, Philosophical Society and Cambridge Commonwealth Society Fellowships. Dr. Biswas is the lead inventor and developer of the patented, 2018 Innovation Award winning, environmental monitoring assay called ANSR Listeria Right Now, which provides results in less than 60-min.
Dr. Biswas has more than fifteen years of experience developing and commercializing diagnostics solutions for human health, animal and food safety sectors.
