ABSTRACT

This plenary session is to provide some insights on the revolution in fossil energy production from gas shales. Brought about by technological breakthroughs, the application of hydraulic fracturing of gas shales and tight oil sands has revolutionized the energy industry and has saved the United States from financial bankruptcy.

The revolution hasn’t happened overnight. And like always occurs with the disruptive innovative practices, new development has have outpaced the ability of policy makers and public officials to cope.

What can we do? Those of us working in this sector can give you the answer. The trick is how do we measure what we do and how we did it?
Technical experts in this conference will provide critical technical information that is part of “how” to resolve some of the questions currently in debate.
