ABSTRACT

Source emission testing to evaluate emissions of sulfur trioxide (SO3) is one of the more complex source emission field test programs that can be performed. Adding to the uncertainty is the wide variety of both manual field test methods and continuous emission monitoring approaches available and currently being used. This presentation will provide a brief history of SO3 testing methodologies and outline the various manual and instrumental methods in use today. Advantages and disadvantages of each sampling approach will also be discussed. Recent development of new ASTM test methods that will hopefully help standardize SO3 source emission test programs will also be reviewed.
