Thoralf Meyer

Before starting at the Bureau of Economic Geology in 2012, Mr. Meyer lived in Africa for 15 years, where he was involved in a variety of short- and long-term scientific projects. Most projects focused on remote-sensing applications for sustainable development and management of natural resources. He is particularly interested in vegetative response to disturbances and climate shifts in arid and semiarid ecosystems.

He is currently finishing up his PhD with the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Virginia and he holds the German equivalent of an MSc, obtained in nature conservation and land use planning at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.

Before moving to the United States he has been operating an environmental consultancy in Botswana, supporting a variety of governmental and non-governmental institutions as well as the private sector in environmentally sound decision making.

At the Bureau of Economic Geology, Mr. Meyer holds a possition as a research associatein the newly formed environmental unit. Here, he focuses on multispectral applications and spectral unmixing processes.
