ABSTRACT

Portable air pollution monitors (sensors) continue to gain the interest of citizens, community groups, and researchers wanting to measure local air pollution in near real-time. The Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) is building off current collaboration efforts with EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD) to explore potential applications of sensor data and the associated data collection and data quality needs. Current monitoring data meet rigorous quality assurance and quality control requirements; air sensors present unique challenges in data use, interpretation, and communication. OAR seeks to provide guidance on how sensor data relate to national standards and health benchmarks.
